I wanted to share something different with you all this week! While studying in Paris I was constantly surrounded by fashion, especially during fashion week. Unlike New York and other cities, you don’t need to wait till fashion week in Paris to see fashion happen. Its all around you! From street style to fashion exhibits to photo shoots happening down the streets. Yup, right outside my school (which was down a very small, quiet street) I walked out to see this mini photo shoot happening. Lol note the random mattress on the right!
When fashion week comes around in Paris you know its happening! There is awesome street style all over the city and tons of top fashionistas flock to Paris for the shows. One of the best experiences I had while studying in Paris was my spur of the moment decision to stand outside the Valentino Fall/Winter 2015 show at the Tulerie Gardens in March. Also up there in the top moments is when my class had a private tour of Fondation Pierre Bergé Yves Saint Laurent and toured all of Yves Saint Laurent original salons and atelier and got to see his original designs and drawings up close. During Haute Couture week at the beginning of the semester in January my friend and I stood outside the Chanel Haute Couture show. I wish I could thrill you all with saying we got to go inside and see the show, but we didn’t. Isn’t possible to go into the shows without an invitation, as the security is very tight and you have to be on the list. So, our next best option was to stand outside the Grand Palais to get a glimpse of some of the guests and models walking in and out. Mind you, it was late January and freezing outside that day we stood around the Grand Palais hoping to catch some pre-show craziness. We were quite disappointed with what we saw, but it was still a cool experience. There weren’t many people walking in and out of the Grand Palais at all and we, along with hundreds of photographers and fans stood outside for about 2 hours. The cameras were everywhere, from the paparazzi to smaller start up bloggers to fashion photographers camera flashes were everywhere. There we plenty of publicity stunts like a group of seven or so girls showing up in a limo in ridiculous bright color ball gowns or this group of demonstrators.
There were girls who would repeatedly walk back and forth across the street to get as much camera on them as possible. Lesson learned: wear something crazy, the most ridiculous outfit combination you own, even a garbage bag tied on you in a trendy way and you will get bombarded by photographers. Our biggest mistake was not bringing out professional cameras. We would have fit in a lot better (and of course much more quality pictures) if we weren’t using our iPhones to photograph. So, we didn’t get to see too many guests or models walking in and out, but it was still an experience being there.
This is Veronika Heilbrunner, style editor of Harper’s Bazaar Germany, wife of Justin O’Shea (my 2nd fav fashion couple), Buying Director at MyTheresa, blogger at hey woman! and street style star. I saw her again with hubby Justin at the Valentino show! She is wearing an Erdem dress and Louis Vuitton bag.
Just to get an idea of what this moments was like…
Nothing like a classic red lip and leopard!
Totally 50’s with bubble gum & hot pink and cat-eye frames! Love the detail in here Chanel gloves with the pearls! Again with the knee high suede boots.
Laure Heriard Dubreuil, founder of The Webster goes for a printed playful look (all Chanel).
Here is Olga Nobozhilova in a gold tweed Chanel suit and Chanel number 5 perfume bag. I Instagramed this photo after the show and she re-grammed it!!
Around came Ready to Wear (RTW) fashion week in mid March and I decided to give standing outside a show a second go around. I had some time before my Mass Media in the Fashion Industry class was visiting the Palais Galliera to see the Jeanne Lanvin exhibit, so I decided to stop by the Tuileries Garden to scope out what was happening outside the Valentino Fall/Winter 2015 ready-to-wear show. I know, very casual, right. Well, it turned out to be one of my favorite experiences abroad. It was a spur of the moment kind of thing, so unfortunately my iPhone camera was all I had. I got off at the metro station Tuleries and was confused to see no one there. I doubled checked the location online, and at that point I had just about given up. I saw this girl (below) talking towards the other end of the park and decided to follow her. She look very trendy, so I was sure she was going somewhere.
And so, I followed her all the way across to the other end of the park and viola the guests parade down the white tarp with their gold Valentino invitation in hand. The set up was great because it allowed everyone to get some good pictures on both sides of the “white carpet.” Ok, so its a little sandier than the red carpet in Hollywood.
I walked in at the perfect time! I walked in right aside Olivia Palermo with husband Johannes Huebl aka my absolute favorite fashion couple and not to mention the best looking! It was crazy because as soon as I snapped the picture below, everyone saw them coming in and attacked them. I was sooo lucky to get such a good picture and so close to them! They both looked as perfect as they are in the pictures.
And one second later…
Selfies with Olivia! Honestly wish I got one, but wasn’t going to make the poor couple stop again.
Street style queen, Helena Bordon, style blogger and socialite wears a floral Valentino gown with blue lace up heels.
Blogger Evangelie Smyrniotaki of Style Heroine wears a Valentino coat and dress, Louis Vuitton belt and Celine shoes.
The one and only Parisienne It Girl, Jeanne Damas!! Another one of my favorites. I seriously don’t think I go one post with out mentioning her!
Brazilian blogger, Lala Rudge walks down the tarp in a Valentino floral dress & matching coat.
A more relaxed hipster look with a cross body messenger bag!
Sarah Rutson (right) of Net-a Porter goes for a corporate chic look in a gray suit and silk white blouse.
My look at the pre-show! Of course light pink! Italian stylist Erica Pelosini rocks a mosaic gemstone dress with a fluffy pale pink jacket. So gorgeous!
Veronika Heilbrunner and Justin O’Shea walk through the crowds with their gold Valentino invites in hand. Veronika’s wears a seventies style dress with a white turtleneck underneath. The dress reminds me of something I tried on at Zara this summer.
The one and only shoe designer, Christian Louboutin is attacked by photographers. I’d say he had as much camera on him as Olivia and Johannes.
A bit on the quirky side of things, Edition Poshette fashion designers and Helen Bendix are twinning in their own designs.
One of my favorite looks of the day! Totally 70’s chic white blouse with flared sleeves, super flared cords, and a jean jacket tied below is accessorized a fringe bag and black circle sunnies.
A rather fun look! Not a fan of polka dots but she rocks it. Fashion consultant Shiona Turini goes for a monochrome blush outfit, wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo fur, DKNY suit, Margiela top and Valentino bag.
Yuyu, fashion blogger of Yuyu Fashion Book, wears a vintage jacket, Valentino shorts and bag, Nicole Panda top and Pierre Hardy sneakers.
DJ fashionista, Leigh Lezark member of The Misshapes wears a Valentino floral print dress, twinning with Lala Rudge.
Drum roll for the final look! What an amazing style duo!! Don’t know who these fashionistas are but they’re killing the game!
I hope you all enjoyed my photos from the Chanel Haute Couture Show and Valentino RTW show! Sorry the photos weren’t better quality. Next time I go I will definitely be bringing my DSLR camera. If you have the opportunity to witness a fashion week from the streets definitely do it! I am going to try and get a peek at some NYFW shows in February, but I don’t think it will be anything like Paris Fashion week. If you could attend any fashion show what would you go to? Share it with me in the comments!
